The Mahindian community in the UAE proudly celebrates a significant triumph, as our team secured the Shield Championship for the fourth time at the prestigious 15th Olcott Memorial Trophy in 2024. This victory underscores our consistent performance and dedication to the sport. Kanishka Piyumal’s exceptional skills on the field earned him the “Man of the Match” title in the Shield final, showcasing his pivotal role in our success. Furthermore, Ajith Sooriarachchi and Anuradha Jayarathna were duly recognized for their outstanding contributions, being named the Best Batsman and Best Bowler respectively in the Shield category, exemplifying the depth of talent within our team.
This year’s tournament also featured the inaugural legends match, a highly anticipated encounter between the Sri Lankan Olcott Schools Legends and the UAE Olcott School Legends. Demonstrating superior skill and team synergy, the UAE legends emerged victorious. Harshadewa Piyasiri, representing our alumni, delivered an extraordinary bowling performance, conceding a mere 10 runs over three overs. His strategic play, which included a maiden over and securing two wickets, rightfully earned him the accolade of Best Bowler in the match. In a display of batting prowess, Asela Wewallawala, another esteemed Mahindian in the Sri Lankan Legends team, was honored as the Best Batsman following his impressive 98 not out off just 33 balls, an innings adorned with 11 sixes.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the supporters who joined us at the venue, providing unwavering support throughout the day. Special mentions to Priyantha, Anusha, and Krishan for their spirited cheers, and profound appreciation to Rohana for his continued sponsorship and support, reinforcing the strong bonds within our community. These collective efforts and the spirit of camaraderie significantly contribute to our ongoing success and the legacy of the Mahindians in the UAE.
