The Mahindian community in UAE came together in a vibrant celebration of Aluth Avurudu, marking the Sri Lankan New Year with traditional flair and communal spirit. Hosted by Mahindians UAE, the event saw an enthusiastic turnout with over 40 members and their families gathering to honor and revel in their cultural heritage.
Set against the backdrop of Ajantha ayya’s residence, the evening was filled with the sights, sounds, and tastes of Sri Lanka. The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, symbolizing a year of light and prosperity ahead. This was followed by an introductory session, a presentation by Mr. Janith Chinthana (Vice President of Mahindians UAE), which not only added fun but also fostered a sense of unity and nostalgia among the attendees.
An array of traditional Sri Lankan foods was on offer, providing a taste of home for many. From sweet kokis to creamy kiribath, the flavors were as rich as the culture they represented. The meal culminated in a shared feast, embodying the communal ethos of Aluth Avurudu.
The event not only celebrated the new year but also emphasized the strength of the Sri Lankan Mahindian community in UAE. “It’s more than just a gathering; it’s a re-affirmation of our roots and a chance to share that with our children,” said one of the attendees, reflecting the sentiment of many present.
As the night drew to a close, the air was thick with joy and the promise of new beginnings. The successful event was a testament to the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Mahindians UAE community and their dedication to preserving and sharing their rich heritage.
