What began as a vision of unity, friendship, and shared heritage became a truly memorable reality over two remarkable days in Galle, as Mahinda College, Galle and Jaffna Hindu College came together for their first-ever friendly cricket and debating encounter.
This landmark initiative originated by Mahindians UAE. The Mahinda Club (Colombo) supported the whole event on the ground and the entire event went far beyond sport, creating meaningful connections between students from the North and South of Sri Lanka.
Day 1 β A Warm Welcome and Cultural Exchange (April 3, 2026)
The Jaffna Hindu College team received a heartfelt welcome at the gates of Mahinda College by fellow Mahindians, members of the school cricket and debating team, and representatives from Mahindians UAE and the Mahinda Club.
A Journey Through History
The day began with a comprehensive school tour, giving the visiting students a glimpse into the proud heritage of Mahinda College. Key highlights included:
- Visiting of the historical Olcott Hall
- The iconic Olcott Statue (built by Mahindians UAE)
- A walk through the scenic college grounds
The tour fostered a deep appreciation for the traditions and legacy that define Mahinda College.
Adding to the experience, the students enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled swimming session at the Mahinda College pool, strengthening friendships in a casual setting.
Cultural & Religious Experiences
The cultural exchange continued with visits to significant landmarks in city of Galle:
- A visit to a Hindu temple in Galle, where special religious blessing observance were conducted for the students from Hindu College
- An exclusive tour of the Galle International Cricket Stadium, offering a behind-the-scenes look at one of Sri Lankaβs most iconic venues
- Evening tea at the historic Galle Fort, where students enjoyed the coastal atmosphere and bonded further
- A visit to the Bonavista Buddhist Temple, βPagoda of Peaceβ symbolizing unity across cultures and faiths
The day beautifully reflected mutual respect, understanding, and shared values.
Day 2 – The Cricket Match & Intellectual Exchange (April 4, 2026)

The much-anticipated T20 match took place at the Mahinda College Grounds under great excitement and sportsmanship.

As the event came to a close the Jaffna Hindu College team departed Galle with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a strengthened sense of unity over a glamorous farewell dinner.
