It was a great honour for Mahindians UAE to join two special events held in Dubai celebrating one of our distinguished Old Boys, Professor Athula Attygalle, an internationally recognised Sri Lankan scientist, inventor, author, and proud alumnus of Mahinda College, Galle.
Prof. Attygalle (DSc, PhD, MSc, BSc, FRSC) is a renowned scientist in the fields of mass spectrometry and chemical ecology, with a distinguished academic and research career in the United States. His career includes serving as a Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, Visiting Professor at the University of Houston, and Director of the Cornell University Mass Spectrometry Facility.
His outstanding contributions to science and innovation have earned him numerous recognitions, including the 2014 Inventor of the Year Award, the 2017 Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award, and the Mahinda Puthra Award in 2018.
The first event, organised by SLQS-UAE, featured an inspiring session titled “Nature’s Intelligence: Inspiring Innovation & Sustainable Solutions.” Prof. Attygalle shared fascinating insights into how lessons from nature can inspire scientific innovation and contribute towards sustainable solutions for the future.
The second event was organised by One Southern – UAE as the inaugural session of its “Inspirations Meet & Greet” series. The gathering brought together members of the Southern Sri Lankan school community in the UAE, providing a special opportunity to hear about Prof. Attygalle’s remarkable journey, experiences, and achievements.
The Mahindians UAE Team was privileged to participate in both occasions and personally meet Prof. Attygalle. It was a particularly proud and meaningful experience to connect with a fellow Mahindian whose achievements have carried the name and spirit of Mahinda College onto the international stage.
His journey serves as an inspiration to generations of Mahindians and a reminder of the heights that can be reached through knowledge, dedication, curiosity, and perseverance.
