A landmark moment in Sri Lankan school cricket and unity unfolds as Mahinda College, Galle and Jaffna Hindu College come together for their first-ever friendly cricket match, marking the beginning of a meaningful tradition built on sportsmanship, respect, and national harmony.
Founded in 1892 by Col. Henry Steel Olcott, Mahinda College stands as a premier Buddhist institution in southern Sri Lanka, with a proud legacy spanning over 134 years. The college has played a vital role in shaping education, society, and sports in Sri Lanka, earning its place as a cornerstone of the nation’s cultural fabric.
Similarly, Jaffna Hindu College, established in 1887, is one of the most respected educational institutions in the North. With a rich heritage and strong commitment to preserving Tamil language, culture, and Hindu values, the college has been a pillar of excellence for generations.
Despite geographical distance, both institutions share deep-rooted cultural values, strong traditions, and a commitment to education and character building. Recognizing these similarities, this initiative aims to strengthen brotherhood and unity between the North and South of Sri Lanka.
This historic encounter has been initiated by the Mahinda Club (Colombo) in collaboration with Mahindians UAE, with the vision of making it an annual event that fosters friendship through sports.
