Mahindians UAE Celebrates 20 years

Mahindians-UAE“, the old boy’s association of Mahinda College in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gala get together, under the theme of “Sing-a-long with Mahindians” on 30th of November at the Carlton Tower Hotel, Deira Dubai. Hon. Charith Yattagoda the Consular General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and Northern Emirates graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mr. Gamini Jayawardena Principal of Mahinda College as the Guest of Honour.

The 20th anniversary event showcased the talents, unity, dedication and devotion of Mahindians residing in the UAE to its alma mater. The President, Mr. Hemantha Jayasree and the Secretary, Dr. Sujeewa Wijewickrama along with the executive committee of the Mahindians-UAE extended their warmest invitations to old pupils of Olcott schools as well as other sister and brother schools, living in the UAE representing over 30 schools around Sri Lanka. To make the event more memorable, representatives of Mahinda Club Colombo all the way from Sri Lanka, were also present amongst many other dignitaries. A token of appreciation was presented to each invitee school and distinguished guest. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the group, the official website of Mahindians UAE; www.oldmahindiansuae.com was also launched at this event.

Mahindians UAE was established in 1998 as the alumni of Mahinda College in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) making it one of the oldest old boys’ groups in the UAE. Over the years, five million rupees worth of projects have been conducted to facilitate many development projects with the school. In celebration of 20 years of existence in UAE, our Alumni conducted a special project to sculpt the statue of our beloved founder of the college, Sir Henry Steel Olcott at the school premises. This majestic statue was declared open at the AGM of the Main OBA in 2019. Simultaneous to the Lovers Quarrel, the annual big match between Mahinda and Richmond past students in UAE was conducted.

The Mahindians-UAE currently has over 80 members and the executive committee continues to reach out to all the members residing in UAE to serve and make their Alma Matar gratified.
